Liverpool transfer news: Brendan Rodgers considering move for Barcelona winger
Liverpool agree £12.5m deal for England international, set to sign five-year contract

Now a pundit for Sky Sports, the former defender explained that he saw the 23-year-old during last season and told him to sign for the Reds.

The Liverpool Echo revealed on Thursday that a £12.5 million fee had been agreed between the clubs, and that Clyne is set to sign a five-year contract subject to a medical.

Carragher even added with his tongue in cheek that he was now part of the much-maligned transfer committee at Anfield. The system of signing new players for the Merseyside club has been blamed by some supporters for signing several flops in recent years, most recently players such as Dejan Lovren and Mario Balotelli.

With Clyne potentially being their sixth arrival of the transfer window after James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Adam Bogdan, and Roberto Firmino, fans will be hoping the club has got it right this time. Manager Brendan Rodgers will be trying to get the new crop to get the team back in to the Champions League, after they came a disappointing sixth last time round.
