The Manchester United striker’s future at the club has come under increased speculation since end of the season , amid rumours that manager Louis van Gaal is targeting another striker during the transfer window.

Edinson Cavani has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and with Uruguay now out of the Copa America tournament, there could soon be some movement in regards to that deal.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker is reportedly being lined up to partner Wayne Rooney in attack next season and reports in Star Sport earlier this month suggested that the Red Devils were planning to sell van Persie in order to fund a huge £60million bid for Cavani.

Another potential replacement for van Persie is Tottenham wonderkid Harry Kane, who impressed many throughout the season as he scored 21 goals in 34 Premier League apperances [via WhoScored].

Independent Sport reported in May that United were considering a staggering £45million offer for the 21-year-old, although he has recently committed his future to the North London outfit [via Guardian Sport].

van Persie has been linked with a move to Serie A and according to van der Kraan, the former Arsenal man is set to sit down with van Gaal in order to find out if he has a future with United:

“I spoke to Robin a few weeks ago and he said he would sit down with Louis van Gaal and do some homework over the summer,” he told talkSPORT.

“I asked what that meant and he just wants to know the plan at Man United.”

“I think he was mostly hinting that he doesn’t want to regularly sit on the bench. He has a massive desire to play, not just for Euro 2016, but he wants to play on and on at the highest level,” van der Kraan added.

The 31-year-old has failed to recapture the form that made him an instant hero in Manchester following his move from the Gunners in the summer of 2012.

That year he scored 26 league goals as United were crowned champions in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season as manager of the club.

However, the change of managers since then has not helped van Persie and he now faces a big season as he needs to playing and scoring regularly with the European Championships on the horizon.

Last season he scored a respectable 10 goals in 27 league games [via WhoScored], although he missed two months of the campaign after picking up an ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat away at Swansea City in February.
