Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has revealed that Manchester United star Robin van Persie will look to leave unless he is promised first team football, reports talkSPORT.

Fenerbahce are apparently interested in the 31-year-old according to the Daily Mirror, but with Kraan claiming he still has a desire to play at the top level this may not be an option he wants to pursue. talkSPORT has also linked Serie A duo Roma and Lazio, who may be more enticing to the former Arsenal ace.

Wherever he goes the striker wants to be playing regularly. With Euro 2016 coming up he will want to be scoring goals to get in to the Netherlands side, but his own desire to feature more often is also behind van Persie’s unhappiness.

“I spoke to Robin a few weeks ago and he said he would sit down with Louis van Gaal and do some homework over the summer,” Kraan said, “I asked what that meant and he just wants to know the plan at Man United. I think he was mostly hinting that he doesn’t want to regularly sit on the bench.

“He has a massive desire to play, not just for Euro 2016, but he wants to play on and on at the highest level. He doesn’t think that sitting on the bench in a squad, which also has Angel Di Maria on the sidelines, will improve his game or help him stay in top fitness. That was why he said he wanted to go to Fulham and Leicester with the reserves last season.”

This comes after a campaign in which the forward struggled with injuries and form under former national team boss Louis van Gaal. Before the season started it was thought that he was one of the 63-year-old’s favourites, but by the end of it he had just ten goals in 29 games.

However, if van Persie does leave it is likely United will have to sign another striker. Radamel Falcao’s loan at the club has ended, leaving Wayne Rooney the only other front line centre-forward at Old Trafford.
