Paraguay star Derlis Gonzalez has had to cope with the tragic news that his uncle died whilst celebrating the team’s progression in the Copa America last night after a thrilling penalty shoot-out win over Brazil.

Gonzalzez’s uncle Manuel suffered a heart attack whilst celebrating the victory, which came after an intriguing 1-1 draw in a tight and nervy game in Chile.

Gonzalez himself scored from the spot in normal time to make the score 1-1, but it will be immensely sad for him to have heard the news, having been informed by his wife of their family’s loss after the game, according to Fox Sports.

The win sees Paraguay through to the semi-finals of the competition, along with Argentina, Peru, and host nation Chile.
