Depay finished the season as the top scorer in Holland with 22 goals in just 30 apperances and also registered five assists to help PSV clinch their first league title in seven years.
The 21-year-old will arrive in England with a reputation as one of the most exiting forwards in European football at the moment and United assistant manager Giggs expects to see the Dutchman flourish in the Premier League in the upcoming campaign:
“Depay is the kind Old Trafford will warm to,” the Welshman said [via Mail Online].
“He’s an exciting player, but there’s also substance behind it. He was top scorer in the Dutch league and got plenty of assists as well.”
“He’s a “United” type. Our fans demand exciting players, players who can get them off their seats and score spectacular goals.”
Depay has also developed a knack for being deadly from set-pieces and Giggs has challenged the youngster to score 10 free-kicks this year.
“One thing we probably have lacked since Cristiano – and Becks before him – is free-kicks. And it looks like Depay has a great track record from free-kicks as well,” Giggs added.
“Over a season, if you can score more from free-kicks and corners it adds up and makes a real difference in winning games. So, no pressure… but hopefully he’ll score 10 free-kicks every year.”
The winger has already passed a medical with the Red Devils [via the club’s official website] and is so far Louis van Gaal’s only summer signing, although there is still plenty of time for that to change and reports [via Mirror Sport] suggest that Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin could soon complete a move to Old Trafford.
