The 25-year-old’s representative also claimed that Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus are keen on the player.

This cohort of teams have become interested in the centre-back after his fine form for the principality-based side last season. In 26 appearances, the defender helped Leonardo Jardim’s side to concede just 26 goals in Ligue 1 as well as get to the quarter finals of the Champions League before losing to eventual finalists Juve 1-0 over two legs.

“They are one of the interested parties,” Jilani said when asked about the Blaugranas’ interest to AS, “like Milan, Inter, Juventus and Liverpool.”

The Merseyside club are keen on the Tunisia international to enforce their faltering back line.

Brendan Rodgers’s side finished a disappointing sixth last time round, letting in 48 goals during the campaign. Centre-backs Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho, and Kolo Toure were all found to be error-prone during the 2014-15 season, and a figure such as Abdennour could be just what they need  in order to help their efforts to get back in to the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Barca may want the centre-back to take over from Javier Mascherano in the position. Manager Luis Enrique could then use the midfielder in his natural role, where he impressed greatly for Argentina during their run to the World Cup final last summer.

The player himself seems open to a move, and it could be that it will be coming sooner rather than later. This will be encouraging for the sides linked to his signature.

“I have a contract with Monaco and I’m undecided,” he said, “but I can say that I want to get better every day and I want to play for one of the biggest clubs spoken about soon. I’m ready.”
