Arsenal could be in with a chance of signing one of Europe’s best strikers for last season for just £21m as Lyon lower their demands for Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Gunners are arguably in need of new additions up front this summer after some unconvincing displays from last year’s striker signing Danny Welbeck in particular, with the England international only managing eight goals in all competitions after joining from rivals Manchester United.

Elsewhere, Olivier Giroud found some good form but still only managed 19 goals in total, fewer than leading scorer Alexis Sanchez, who doesn’t play as an out-and-out centre-forward.

Lacazette, meanwhile, scored a hugely impressive 31 goals for Lyon in all competitions, following on from 22 the previous season to establish himself as one of the best young forwards in the game, still aged only 24.

The Telegraph now states that Lyon are ready to do business with Arsenal this summer, and will accept a surprisingly low fee of £21m after previous suggestions that he would command a much bigger price, though these may have been tactics to scare off suitors.

The article also explains that Arsenal have been boosted in the chase for the French international due to a breakdown in contract talks between himself and the Ligue 1 giants, with his wage demands perhaps too high for a club of their size.

Arsene Wenger has a history of signing players from his native France, and Lacazette may relish the chance to join big names like Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Patrick Vieira as successful players to cross the Channel and make a name for themselves in north London.
