The North London side completed the signing of Chelsea keeper Petr Cech and are plotting further moves in the summer transfer window and have identified the Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkuen pair as top midfield recruits ahead of oft-cited targets Morgan Schneiderlin and Arturo Vidal.

26 year old Lars Bender offers a central midfield option whilst twin Sven Bender is perhaps more defensively minded, both players have a solid level of Bundesliga experience and the German national team.

Both players would provide a steely option in the centre of the park, helping to offer balance to a squad that is perhaps overly laden with creative talents, and can offer protection for those more forward thinking midfielders in Arsene Wenger’s set-up.

In many ways Arsene Wenger was fortunate to find that long term bit-part player Francis Coquelin exceed all expectations after being ushered into the first-team set-up but it would be foolish for the Arsenal boss to not look to sign at least one strong midfielder this summer.
