Manchester United launch £28.6m bid for Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Los Blancos’ vice-captain over the past week, following reports that the 29-year-old is unhappy in the Spanish capital and wants out this summer [AS].

“In Ramos, Man Utd will be signing one of the top defenders in Europe and a leader if they can pull the deal off,” Carragher was quoted by Sky Sports as saying.

“There is still a feeling that he’s overrated in England which I disagree with. At 29 he should be at his best and physically I think he’ll be fine in the Premier League.”

On Monday night, Sky Sports tweeted their understanding that the centre-back has informed the La Liga BBVA giants that his desire is to swap the Santiago Bernabeu for Old Trafford in the summer window.

BBC Sport have today claimed that the Premier League heavyweights have made a £28.6m bid for Ramos’ signature which – while some way off Rafael Benitez’s rumoured £60m valuation [via The Independent] – suggests that Real face a serious battle to keep hold of the influential defender.

Nonetheless, the possibility very much remains that – as Spanish football expert Guillem Balague told Sky Sports – Ramos could simply be trying to earn himself a new and improved deal in Madrid.
