The Argentine winger joined the Red Devils in a club-record £59.7million deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid last summer [via Man United’s official website] and after initially producing some moments of brilliance, the physical demands of English football began to take its toll on the 27-year-old.
He lost his place in the starting XI under manager Louis van Gaal towards the end of the season and that prompted speculation of a summer transfer away from Old Trafford.
Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Di Maria and reports in Star Sport over the weekend suggested that a swap deal involving striker Edinson Cavani.
However, United defender Rojo expects his countryman to remain at the club next season and is tipping him to prove doubters wrong:
“For me, the player with the most talent at Manchester United is Angel,” Rojo told Goal.
“There are great players at the club, but Angel for me is one of the best in the team and in the world.”
“It has been a difficult year for him. He had some problems adapting, but that’s normal. Any player coming to a new country and a new league has to adapt to the differences and that’s what happens. But I’m sure he will do really well in the months ahead,” Rojo added.
The pair are currently on international duty together at the 2015 Copa America and will hoping to guide Argentina to a place in the final with victory over Paraguay.
