The World Cup winner has told his Bernabeu side he wants to leave and Louis van Gaal will hope to secure the 29-year-old as he seeks to strengthen his shaky defence.

Ramos has told Real Madrid he wants to join Man United and Sky Sports claim the former Sevilla man is committed to leaving the Spanish giants this summer.

Van Gaal saw senior defenders Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans struggle to convince at the back on a consistent enough basis and Man United were frequently reliant on keeper David De Gea to provide a last line of defence over the past two seasons.

Sky Sports state that Ramos is unhappy with contract negotiations, or lack thereof, as others at Real Madrid enter into discussions over new deals.

Van Gaal would do well to take advantage of the broken relationship between Ramos and Real Madrid.

Ramos has completed ten seasons at Real Madrid, making 445 appearances for the La Liga side, and would be a superb summer signing from Man United if indeed they can pull it off.

Man United striker Robin van Persie has previously stated that his side were ready to spend as much as £200m in the transfer market (Via Daily Express) and the Old Trafford side have already captured PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay.
