The 29-year-old is set to be rewarded for an impressive season last year where he forced his way into Louis van Gaal’s starting XI and was even able to keep the club’s record signing Angel Di Maria on the bench during the second half of the season.

United have recognised Young’s efforts and he will join defender Phil Jones [via BBC Sport] in signing new deals with the Red Devils.

The former Aston Villa winger initially struggled with his move to Old Trafford in 2011 as the pressure of playing for such a big club seemed to be too much for him and his time looked to be up when van Gaal took over from David Moyes last summer.

However, the number of injuries at the start of the season in the United squad opened the door for Young to make an impression and he duly took advantage to score twice and register five assists in 26 Premier League appearances.
