The Daily Star reported on Monday that Arsenal are planning a bid for Carvalho having cooled their interest on Morgan Schneiderlin, who appears to be on the verge of a move to Old Trafford [Independent].

However, while Louis van Gaal concentrates his attentions on the Frenchman, the Gunners look primed to secure the services of Sporting Lisbon’s Carvalho.

United have also been linked with a move for the £20 million-rated powerhouse [Star], while Chelsea are also understood to be interested in his services [The Guardian].

The Metro understand that Arsene Wenger have made enquiries about a £19.8 million-move for the player, with the Star indicating that Arsenal are ‘most likely’ to secure the midfielder.

Wenger began the week by completing the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, who moved to the Emirates Stadium on an £11 million deal [Telegraph], and now appears set to add the 23-year-old to the club’s ranks.

The North-London giants have already lost the services of one central midfielder this summer, with Abou Diaby being released [Independent], and the likes of Santi Cazorla [ESPN], Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky [both Mirror] all having been linked with a move away from the club.

Carvalho managed 30 appearances in the Portuguese top flight last term, contributing one goal, and also featured seven times in Europe.
