Barcelona are currently leading the race for Paul Pogba‘s signature, with Manchester City reportedly set to miss out on the signing of the in-demand Juventus midfielder.

Although Barca cannot register new players due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban until January 2016, the Daily Mail believes they are working on a deal with Juve to bring Pogba to the Nou Camp for next season – a deal that would clearly suit the Italians.

Having established himself as one of the world’s best young players in recent times, the French international has become a key member of this Juventus side, helping them to three Serie A title wins in a row as well as on a run to last season’s Champions League final, where, coincidentally, he was on the losing side to the Catalan giants.

With Massimiliano Allegri clearly hoping to continue his side’s dominance next term, keeping Pogba at the club will surely be a priority, meaning that even an extra year of the 22-year-old’s services in midfield could be hugely significant.

The Mail claimss that senior Barcelona officials Ariedo Braida and Albert Soler have met with Juventus managing director Giuseppe Marotta in Italy, and that a deal for Pogba to move to the La Liga champions for the 2016/17 season currently looks most likely, which will be bad news for City, who have also been strongly linked with the player this summer.

Pogba had a spell in England earlier in his career, making a handful of appearances for Manchester United, though he never managed to establish himself in the club’s first-team before truly making the step up after a move to Turin, where he has earned rave reviews for his performances in the middle of the park, combining great physicality with exceptional technique and skill.
