Liverpool had been linked to the Switzerland international by the Daily Express, but the 23-year-old may be aiming higher than that. The Potters have told the midfielder that he could get back in to a Champions League through impressing at the Britannia stadium, and the Reds failed to qualify for the competition last time round after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

The winger was a part of Bayern Munich’s treble winning side of the 2012-13 season and currently plays for Italian giants Inter, so Mark Hughes’ side would be quite a step down. However, they have improved in recent campaigns, and the former Manchester City boss even persuaded ex-Barcelona ace Bojan Krkic to join just last summer.

Stoke have offered the midfielder £60,000 a week to further entice one of the stars of the 2014 World Cup to join, after agreeing a £12 million fee with the Nerazzurri for the player.
