Kees Vos, the player’s agent, has been in Istanbul for the past two days, tied into negotiations with Fenerbahce over the future of the veteran hitman.

The Istanbul heavyweights and the Red Devils are in discussions over the final details of the move, including the transfer fee, but the 31-year-old striker has agreed personal terms with the club and will put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract if a deal is struck with United.

The Netherlands international’s wife initially had reservations about a move to Turkey, but has warmed to the idea after spending last week in Istanbul, where she has grown accustomed to the idea of living in the city.

According to Turkish Football, former Fenerbahce forward Dirk Kuyt has played a key role in convincing Van Persie to make the move. The former Liverpool man spent three seasons in Istanbul winning the Super Lig, the Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup during his time with the Yellow Canaries.

RVP’s future has been on doubt for some time after managing 10 goals in 27 appearances in the EPL. Despite having a year on the contract, it has not been clear whether he has a future at Old Trafford, where he is in danger of becoming a bit-part player under his compatriot Louis van Gaal.
