Arsenal look set to miss out on the signing of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal this summer after Chilean source La Tercera claimed he reached an agreement to join Real Madrid on a five-year contract.

The Copa America winner looks all set for the Bernabeu after this revelation, which adds up after the Daily Telegraph‘s recent report that Arsenal had ended their interest in the South American star.

Still, fans will be disappointed not to see the club pursue a proven all-rounder in midfield, particularly with Francis Coquelin currently the best option in that role, while senior figures such as Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere have disappointed in the role in recent times.

Spanish source AS adds that Vidal may have said his goodbyes to Juventus already, quoting sources in Italy that seem certain the player will not be donning the famous black-and-white shirt again next season.

Real Madrid are known for their tendancy to sign big-name ‘Galactico’ players, and Vidal certainly fits the bill in that regard, having established himself as one of the best in the world in his position in recent times.

Arsenal may now be focusing their attention elsewhere, though manager Arsene Wenger may even feel that Coquelin’s rise and Santi Cazorla’s adaptation to a deeper role in midfield could mean he doesn’t need to enter the market for a new signing in that area this summer.

The Gunners already have another Chilean in Alexis Sanchez on the books at the Emirates Stadium, and the pair combined well to help their country to glory as they hosted this summer’s Copa America, beating Argentina on penalties in the final.
