The 31-year-old had been linked with a move to Fenerbahce by The Guardian, but it seems those reports were wide of the mark. The former Arsenal man was back in training on Monday, and Vos has denied that a new team has been found for the Netherlands international.

“If Robin had found a new club, we would have announced it. And I’m in the Netherlands right now,” Vos said,

“All I can say that tomorrow (Monday) Robin will simply report at Manchester United for the first training session.”

However, the forward could still end up leaving Old Trafford, with game time a priority for the Dutchman ahead of the European Championships in 2016. Van Persie is expected to hold talks with manager Louis van Gaal over his plans for the season as a result, and could depart if he doesn’t feature heavily in them.

Last time round, the centre-forward managed just ten goals in 29 appearances for the Red Devils, with some of the injury problems that plagued him at the Gunners seemingly returning. However, having just had a full summer to recover from his fitness concerns, he may think that he is back to his best for the upcoming campaign.

With Radamel Falcao’s loan having come to an end, the only other senior striker in the squad is captain Wayne Rooney. As such, it may be that van Persie isn’t allowed to leave United until they have signed a replacement.
