Liverpool eye £16m bid for Etihad Stadium star after suffering transfer blow for Man United target

The Guardian claim that the Serie A outfit are in talks with the Citizens over the availability of the former Vfl Wolfsburg star this summer, and have tabled a €20m (£14.1m) offer, and proposed to the player a four-year contract worth €4.5m-a-season.

Last month, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, according to the Mirror, was offered the chance to join the Reds in a player-plus-cash deal for Raheem Sterling – but rejected the tabled move to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were also said to be planning on making a swoop for his signature this summer [via the Daily Star], as well as Arsenal [via The Sun].

Only last summer, Dzeko put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract extension with the Sky Blues; however, the 29-year-old very much remains a bit-part player at the Etihad with his 11 Premier League starts last season summing up a miserable campaign for the forward.

Nonetheless, despite his limited role in Manchester, the 29-year-old remains a significant threat in front of goal, with his record of 42 goals in 72 appearances for his country illustrating just how dangerous he can be as a leading centre forward.

Dzeko has lifted two Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup and one Community Shield since moving to the club in the winter window of the 2010-11 campaign.

He could still be a valuable for Brendan Rodgers, who is in need of striking reinforcements this summer.

Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli all failed to ignite last season, and Dzeko could contribute both a goal threat and could provide the kind of elite-end Premier League experience that other new recruits such as Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings could not.
