According to Marca on Tuesday, the legendary Casillas is nearing an agreement with the club on his mutual departure from the Bernabeu, paving the way for De Gea’s arrival.

The goalkeeper and the Merenges are discussing an agreement which would see the 34-year-old liberated from his contract, although the outstanding issue of his salary for the coming two seasons remains unresolved.

L’Equipe report that the player will be owed €13 million gross for this season, and €12 million for the next campaign.

The compromise on this €25 million owed to Casillas for the first two years of his contract is the key issue that is preventing the international from seeking a new club.

FC Porto have been heavily linked with the keeper, although it remains to be seen whether any other sides will look to snare him from Real [ESPN].

The progression of discussions is a major indicator that Real Madrid are to invest all of their resources and efforts into securing De Gea this summer, with the United goalkeeper being considered by many as the natural successor to Casillas.

The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday that the two clubs have reached an impasse concerning De Gea’s future, but note that United could be persuaded to sell should Real offer £35 million for his signature.
