The Etihad Stadium side failed with two previous bids for the 20 year old England international but are now set to meet Liverpool’s £50m valuation, albeit with £45m of that sum being up-front with another £5m dependent on Sterling’s success at the club.

Man City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is confident of sealing the deal before the end of the next week and will look to have Sterling on board ahead of the club’s pre-season tour.

Sterling moved to Liverpool in 2010 from QPR and has matured into one of the hottest prospects in European football, netting 11 goals in all competitions in 2014/15, and given Brendan Rodgers’ transfer activity thus far this summer it would appear the Merseyside outfit are planning for his departure.

Liverpool have already signed six players this summer with the likes of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne having been brought in to boost the Anfield outfit’s push for a return to the top four.
