There have been reports that the 31-year-old has agreed a deal with Turkish side Fenerbahce, with The Guardian reporting that terms had been confirmed between player and club.

However, the player’s agent Kees Vos has denied this [Goal], and the Netherlands international turned up at pre-season training at Carrington on Monday, according to Sky Sports.

Los Merengues are in need of a forward to replace Javier Hernandez, who was on loan at the Bernabeu from the Red Devils last season. The 27-year-old managed seven goals in just 859 minutes of La Liga action for Los Blancos, playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema throughout the campaign.

It remains to be seen whether the former Arsenal man would be happy to play a similar back up role at the Bernabeu, and may prefer the prospect of first-team football in Istanbul.

With the Dutchman wanting to play regularly so that he can get in to his country’s squad for the 2016 European Championships, according to Goal, it could be that he opts to avoid the risk of a season on the Real bench.

Van Persie isn’t the only option for new Real boss Rafael Benitez, with the former Liverpool manager also attempting to persuade Cristiano Ronaldo to play in a central role. However, the two-time Ballon d’Or winner is reluctant to leave his usual position on the left wing, reports AS.
