According to talkSPORT, the Montenegro international is close to a Serie A return, with Roberto Mancini set to do business with his former club in the summer window.

The report states that the 25-year-old is not considered central to Manuel Pellegrini’s future plans, and the two-time Premier League champions are poised to allow the striker to temporarily leave Manchester – but will give the Nerazzurri first-option at signing him on a permanent deal for £13 million next summer.

Jovetic spent five seasons in Italy’s top flight with Fiorentina between 2008-13 – scoring 35 goals in 116 appearances over five campaigns – but has struggled to adapt to life in the EPL.

Since signing for the Sky Blues in a deal worth £22m in July 2013 [via BBC Sport], he has made just 12 starts, scoring eight goals, and looks poised to end his misery – at least temporarily – this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool have also expressed an interest in Jovetic, who may well love the opportunity to demonstrate to City just what he is capable of in the Premier League.

Jovetic is one of two Citizens strikers to be linked with an exit in the coming months, as Edin Dzeko is also rumoured to have an uncertain future under Pellegrini ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international is most recently said to be a target for AS Roma, though City’s asking price of £20m is proving a stumbling block in negotiations, The Guardian report.
