The former Arsenal striker has been heavily linked with a exit from Manchester United this summer [via Sky Sports] and the player looks likely to be unveiled imminently, as Fenerbahce broke the news via their official Twitter account.

van Persie has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford, but with major speculation in the media that manager Louis van Gaal is in the market for a new striker this summer [via Standard Sport], the Dutchman may have feel his game time will be limited next season and a move abroad will be beneficial ahead of next summer’s European Championships in France.

Should he join Fenerbahce, he will be reunited with his former Red Devils teammate Nani, who completed his move to Turkey at the weekend [via BBC Sport].

The 31-year-old has endured a mixed spell at Old Trafford since arriving from the Gunners in the summer of 2012 as he has failed to hit the heights of his debut season when he played a starring role in clinching United’s record 20th league title.

That season he scored 26 league goals under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson and it’s no coincidence that van Persie’s form has dipped alarmingly since the legendary Scot retired from management.

Neither David Moyes or van Gaal have been able to get the very best out of the Dutchman in the last two seasons and last year was a difficult one as he often failed to complete the full 90 minutes and what is increasingly looking like his penultimate game at Old Trafford ended with him missing a penalty in a 1-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion.

Not many would have seen van Persie leaving the Premier League at this stage in his career after such a stunning start to life in Manchester, but with his form declining it seems it’s the right time for United to cash in.

Sky Sports report that the forward has agreed a four-year deal with the Turkish giants.
