Manchester City could learn their fate as they chase the signing of Wolfsburg attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The former Chelsea ace, who left Stamford Bridge to join the Bundesliga giants back in January 2014, has been linked with a return to England after showing some hugely impressive form in the German top flight in recent times, though the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have joined City in attempting to sign him, the Star claims.

Still, this latest article now says De Bruyne could be offered a big new contract by Wolfsburg, who are desperate to keep the talented Belgian international at the club this summer, and the club appear confident that the player will end up remaining where he is.

Club director Klaus Allofs is quoted as saying the 24-year-old has a contract until 2019, but admitted he may deserve a better pay packet than what he is on at the moment, which could help fight off interest from potential suitors.

“Kevin has a contract until 2019, so the signal has already been sent out,” Allofs said.

“He will stay with us. We’ve said we will look at his contract.

“The aim is to take into account financially Kevin’s extraordinary development. The best players should earn the best wages. We will make an offer to him and I think we will reach an agreement here very quickly.”

This will come as some blow to City, who look in need of improvements in midfield for next season after a dip in form from big players like Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri in 2014/15, which saw the club slip to second place in the Premier League and fail to win any silverware.

Given De Bruyne managed ten goals and 20 assists for Wolfsburg last season, there’s no doubt his quality could add something to Manuel Pellegrini’s side, but it may prove a hard transfer to push through.
