Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has had his say on the Raheem Sterling transfer saga situation at Anfield and admits he has been left disappointed by his old team-mate, BBC Sport reports.

The former Reds captain, who left Anfield at the end of last season for a move to MLS giants LA Galaxy, compared Sterling with his eventual replacement as captain, Jordan Henderson, describing the pair as opposite ends of the scale in terms of their professionalism and attitude.

Sterling has been attempting to force a move away from Liverpool this summer, with BBC Sport also recently reporting that the club had cancelled talks over a new contract after comments from his agent. Manchester City have shown the strongest interest in signing the 20-year-old so far this summer, but most recently failed with a £40m bid, BBC Sport claim.

Despite being handed his breakthrough on Merseyside, it seems the England international is no longer happy under Brendan Rodgers (via the Guardian) and that that could be a big motivation behind his desire to leave for a new challenge elsewhere.

Still, Gerrard, who spent the bulk of his career with Liverpool, could not hide his disappointment, telling the BBC he would love to be able to say more about what he really thinks on the issue.

“I’d love to be able to say what I want to say on it,” he said.

“Raheem and Jordan are at different ends of the scale. Jordan’s so professional, he’s a winner, a great lad.”
