Arsenal could be in a good position to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin this summer after Manchester United’s move for Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger.

According to the Daily Express, United have agreed a £14m deal to bring in the experienced German international this summer, with the World Cup winner set to sign a three-year contract at Old Trafford. This will supposedly see the Red Devils end their interest in Saints ace Schneiderlin.

According to a recent report in the Sunday Times, United had been pursuing the French international but were struggling to persuade him to join them over rivals Arsenal. This could mean that Schweinsteiger is now being targeted as an alternative to Schneiderlin as Louis van Gaal seeks to address his side’s central midfield options.

Still, the Times piece mentions the 25-year-old’s desire to move to the Emirates Stadium, and although it says that the Gunners have not yet made a concrete offer for him this summer, a previous report from the Daily Express suggested there could be an agreement in place for him to make the move to north London for around £25m.

Arsenal could do with another signing in midfield despite the breakthrough of Francis Coquelin last season, with Santi Cazorla often used in an unfamiliar deep role due to the absence of players like Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere through injury.
