Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has commented that it would be an honour to play for Turkish giants Fenerbahce at some point in the future.

The German international has recently emerged as a shock summer transfer target for Italian giants Juventus, according to the Independent, and he has now spoken of his desire to one day play for his favourite club, which he revealed to be Fenerbahce in an interview with Sabah.

“In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt it would be an honour,” he said when asked if he’d like to represent the club.

“Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”

Although Ozil stressed that this would be a move for some point in the future rather than immediately, it could come as a concern to Arsenal fans that one of their best players is thinking about another team whilst being linked with a move away.

The 26-year-old has been in good form for the Gunners in recent times, despite a slow start to life at the Emirates Stadium, and the club will not want to go back down the route that saw them lose one big name after another following their expensive move to their new ground from Highbury back in 2006.

Arsenal were unable to hold onto the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie when bigger clubs came calling, and the loss of a player like Ozil would be a real blow after some progress in recent seasons, with few high-profile departures and two FA Cup wins in a row inspired by some more ambitious moves in the transfer market.
