The Magpies announced the capture of the 24-year-old via their official Twitter account on Saturday morning and the midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal.

Wijnaldum is new manager Steve McClaren’s first signing since arriving at the club earlier in the summer and has further added to the Dutch contingent at St James’ Park which includes the likes of Tim Krul, Daryl Janmaat and Siem De Jong.

United are understood to have paid £14.5million to land the Dutchman [via BBC Sport], who now becomes the club’s third highest transfer acquisition behind Michael Owen and Toon Army legend Alan Shearer.

Wijnaldum captained PSV to the Eredivisie title last season and will come up against his former teammate Memphis Depay when his new club entertain Manchester United at Old Trafford in gameweek three of the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League campaign.
