The winger, who is attracting interest from Manchester City, informed his current employers of his desire to live Anfield this summer and was reported to have refused to go on tour [via Telegraph Sport].

Now with this latest twist to the transfer saga, that request has fallen on deaf ears as Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has sent out a clear message that he intends to keep hold of the £50million-rated England international.

It has certainly been a controversial week for the 20-year-old as he missed two days of pre-season training with reports [via Telegraph Sport] of him being ill and he will now have to join his Reds teammates on tour unless City intervene with a third bid that matches the Merseyside outfit’s valuation before the squad takes flight on Sunday afternoon.

News of the Sterling’s inclusion in the 30-man squad was announced via the club’s official Twitter account on Saturday and there were three notable absentees from the list.

Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique have all been left out of the squad which will likely increase speculation that none of the three have a future at the club.
