Manchester United legend Gary Neville has given his seal of approval regarding the club’s newest addition Matteo Darmian.

The Italian defender completed his move to Old Trafford from Serie A outfit Torino on Saturday evening [via BBC Sport] and becomes manager Louis van Gaal’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of Dutch forward Memphis Depay from PSV.

Darmian will face competition from the likes of Rafael and Antonio Valencia to become the club’s first choice right-back, which is a position that United have struggled in since Neville’s retirement in 2011.

The former United defender is certainly in a good position to pass judgement on Darmian after witnessing him produce two good performances against England once at the 2014 World Cup and again in a friendly last season.

With those performances fresh in Neville’s mind he took to social media and welcomed the signing of the 25-year-old.

Last season Darmian scored twice in 35 league games for Torino and his versatility could prove crucial in the upcoming campaign as he is equally comfortable playing on the opposite flank as well as a central defender.
