Villa Park side keen on White Hart Lane striker.

Aston Villa are reportedly leading the chase to sign Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor according to Goal.

Former White Hart Lane boss Tim Sherwood hopes to lure the Togo international to Villa Park and Spurs are ready to accept less than £5 million for the highly-paid marksman.

Tottenham signed Adebayor from Man City in August 2012, after an initial loan spell, and the north London side are keen to have the player’s £100k a week salary wiped off their balance sheet.

Adebayor scored 17 goals Premier League goals in his first season at Tottenham but has failed to hit those heights ever since and last term the 31-year-old managed just two goals in 13 domestic top tier appearances.

Mauricio Pochettino has successfully offloaded a host of under-performing talents this summer with the likes of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Lewis Holtby being sold to Guangzhou Evergrande, Watford and Hamburg respectively.

Tottenham were heavily reliant on Harry Kane in the final third last term with Adebayor, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado all failing to provide a consistent level of form in 2014/15.
