Liverpool transfers: Serie A midfielder open to Anfield switch

Anfield side linked with interest in Chilean international.

Inter Milan midfielder Gary Medel is open to a move to join Liverpool according to Spanish source Fichajes (via the Marca).

The 27-year-old Chilean moved to the San Siro last summer, having spent the previous campaign in the Premier League with Cardiff City, and is a player Brendan Rodgers would like to lure to Anfield (via the Liverpool Echo).

Fichajes claims the tough-tackling South American is ready to listen to offers from the Merseyside outfit this summer.

Brendan Rodgers could well do with strengthening his central midfield options with Brazilian Lucas Leiva struggling with fitness, Joe Allen failing to impress on a consistent enough basis, and with Steven Gerrard having left the club for MLS side LA Galaxy.

Medel is a tigerish performer who can provide a strong presence in the centre of the park, offering protection for Liverpool’s defence, and giving the club’s creative attacking talents more time on the ball.

The Santiago born defensive midfielder had an average first season at Inter Milan but was at his very best during Chile’s Copa America triumph over the summer.
