Old Trafford side look to bring in PSG forward Edinson Cavani.

Man United in talks to sign PSG forward Edinson Cavani with Louis van Gaal hoping to make the South American his fifth summer signing according to The Sun.

The 28-year-old Uruguayan has spent the past two seasons at the Parc des Princes, netting 56 goals, and has helped Laurent Blanc’s side to back to back Ligue 1 titles.

The Sun claim that PSG insist that the £50m rated striker’s potential move to Old Trafford be part of a move that would suit Angel di Maria move to the French capital, a deal Man United are willing to negotiate.

The Argentine winger cost Man United a British record £59.7m fee but failed to impress in his debut season in England.

Man United lacked a prolific finisher last season, with Robin van Persie netting just ten Premier League goals in an average campaign, and van Gaal certainly prefers to use Wayne Rooney in a withdrawn role.

Cavani, who The Sun values at £50m, could provide Man United a superb striking spearhead, the lanky forward having the ideal physical presence to thrive in the Premier League, and Louis van Gaal will look to bring in the former Napoli man as his latest high-profile addition.

Man United signed Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven early in the summer and completed the capture of Torino right-back Matteo Darmian earlier this month.

Chief executive Ed Woodward then pulled off a real masterstroke with the double capture of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, from Bayern Munich and Southampton respectively, being announced by the club on Monday ahead of Man United’s pre-season tour of the US.

Cavani excelled in Naples prior to his move to PSG, netting 104 goals in three seasons at the San Paolo.
