Man United line-up £75m bid for superb South American pair as Louis van Gaal seeks to continue spending spree

Old Trafford side have already secured deals to sign four top quality additions this summer.

Man United have set their sights on signing two South American stars as Louis van Gaal looks to continue his massive summer spending spree according to the Daily Express.

The Dutch manager has already secured the services of Dutch youngster Memphis Depay, right-back Matteo Darmian, Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and German international Bastian Schweinsteiger and now hopes to bring in PSG forward Edinson Cavani and Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi to cap off a very busy transfer window.

Having completed the sale of Robin van Persie to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, and opted against making their loan signing of Radamel Falcao a permanent one (via talkSPORT), van Gaal is readying an offer of around £50m for 28-year-old Uruguayan Cavani according to the Daily Express.

The deal is part of what the Daily Express claims would be a £75m double swoop.

Cavani has spent two seasons at the Parc des Princes and despite being used in an unaccustomed wide-attacking role for much of that period the powerful forward has still bagged 56 goals in 96 appearances.

Van Gaal saw his side struggle defensively in 2014/15, frequently having to rely upon keeper David De Gea to bail them out, now Man United will look to bring in a new centre-back and the Daily Express believes 27-year-old La Liga defender Otamendi is the club’s number one priority in this regard.

Otamendi is a no-nonsense performer who could certainly offer Man United an improvement on the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans.

Man United successfully secured a return to Champions League action for 2015/16 and moves made by van Gaal this summer will certainly aid the club’s push for major honours after two lean seasons.

The Old Trafford side have helpfully made room for new additions with the sales of a number of players who had fallen down the club’s pecking order over the past year.

Van Gaal has sold Nani & Van Persie to Fenerbahce, offloaded Ángelo Henríquez to Dinamo Zagreb and allowed Tom Cleverley to move to Everton on a free transfer.

The Daily Express suggest Javier Hernandez, Victor Valdes, Rafael Da Silva and Nick Powell will also be on their way this summer.
