Man United: Defender training with Red Devils ahead of imminent transfer switch as another star nears exit door

Barnsley defender Mason Holgate is understood to be on trial with Manchester United.

According to The Sun [via the Daily Star], the Red Devils have invited the 18-year-old to train with them as they assess the youngster ahead of a possible move.

The right-back featured 20 times for Barnsley in League One last season, making 18 starts and scoring once.

The full-back has done enough to earn the attention of United, but Louis van Gaal’s side may have to see off competition from other Premier League sides if they want to secure their man.

The Daily Mail have reported that Aston Villa are also keen on the youngster, and with the player having rejected a new contract with the Tykes, Tim Sherwood may also look to move to secure the future of the talented teenager.

Villa have also been linked with a move for OGC Nice defender Jordan Amavi [Daily Mail], with Sherwood clearly seeing the full-back positions as key areas to strengthen ahead of the coming campaign.

While Bennett may be closing in on a move to Old Trafford, another United right-back looks to be heading closer to the exit door.

Following the arrival of Matteo Darmian from Torino, it’s hard to see a future for Rafael at the club, and according to Turkish Football [via the Daily Star], the right-back is in talks with Galatasaray ahead of a possible move to the Istanbul giants.
