Manchester United have submitted a new bid for Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, according to reports from Spain.
At the end of last month, the Red Devils had a £23.8m opening offer rebuffed by the La Liga BBVA giants after reports claimed that the 29-year-old had ordered his current club to begin negotiating with Louis van Gaal’s side over a possible summer transfer [via Sky Sports].
According to the Mirror, United have returned with a second bid for the Spain international – said by the English newspaper to be €45m (£31.7m) – as the Premier League heavyweights remain determined to secure the signature of Los Blancos’ vice-captain.

It had been suggested this week that van Gaal may have to concede defeat in the chase for the former Sevilla star, as it was stated [via The Independent] that Ramos would become Real’s new captain following the confirmed exit of Iker Casillas to FC Porto.
The Dutchman, however, doesn’t appear to have given up hope on signing the Spaniard just yet.
While a move for the decorated centre-back may seem farfetched, the same could have been said for the persistent speculation that Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger – whose arrival in Manchester has been confirmed [via manutd.com] – would walk out at Old Trafford next season.
