Man United: Louis van Gaal believes Morgan Schneiderlin signing can be club’s answer to Roy Keane

Morgan Schneiderlin has been tipped to have a huge impact at Old Trafford for many years to come by his new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, Mirror Sport reports.

The Red Devils fended off competition from fierce rivals Arsenal to land the French international midfielder from fellow Barclays Premier League outfit Southampton in a deal worth a reported £25 million [via BBC Sport].

Schneiderlin alongside fellow new arrival Bastian Schweinsteiger are expected to boost a midfield area that already has the likes of Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini as van Gaal aims to build a squad capable of winning the championship this season.

The Dutch manager is certainly pleased with the capture of Schneiderlin as believes he can be the club’s modern day version of United legend Roy Keane, who arguably is yet to be fully replaced since his sudden departure from the club almost a decade ago.

“Morgan is a player from the Premier League so he can cope with the Premier League,” van Gaal said.

“Our selection was not in balance and I have already mentioned that I want to make the balance with midfielders, so you could expect that I shall buy two holding midfielders.”

“And Morgan Schneiderlin is the type that I think can play in our system and in our philosophy,” the Red Devils boss added.

Supporters are likely to get a first glimpse of Schneiderlin in an United shirt on Saturday morning when they face Mexican outfit Club America in a pre-season friendly.
