Promising defender Hector Bellerin has signed a new long-term contract with Barclays Premier League giants Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a stunning breakthrough year with the North London outfit last season and news of him committing his future to the club was announced via the official Twitter account of Sky Sports on Friday evening.

After struggling on his Champions League debut against Borussia Dortmund last September, Bellerin showed a great deal of mental strength to bounce back from a poor performance in Germany and become one of the first names in manager Arsene Wenger’s starting XI during the second half of the 2014-15 campaign.

Two long-term injuries to Mathieu Debuchy presented Bellerin with the chance to stake his claim as the number right-back for the Gunners and the young Spaniard grabbed it with both hands.

In his 20 Premier League appearances he registered one assist and found the back of the net against both Aston Villa and Liverpool.

This year Bellerin will be hoping to improve on his brilliant form during the second half of last season and will face competition from a fit-again Debuchy for the right-back spot.

With the Frenchman looking to stay fully fit this year after a injury-raved debut season at the Emirates Stadium, the battle between him and the Spanish youngster promises to be an intriguing one.
