Everton make enquiry for Man United legend to join Jonny Evans at Goodison Park (Video)

Everton have made an enquiry for Inter Milan defender Nemanja Vidic, only hours after news broke that the Toffees were close to completing a move for Manchester United centre-back Jonny Evans.

The Guardian reported that Roberto Martinez was close to signing off on an £8 million deal to bring the Northern Ireland international to Goodison Park.

Should the defender complete his move, he will end a seven-year association with the Red Devils first team, having made his debut in the 2007-8 season before going on to make over 100 league outings for the Old Trafford giants.

However, the stopper appears to have no place in the plans of Louis van Gaal, with the Dutch man apparently calling time on his long stay in Manchester.

It remains to be seen whether the manager has also lost faith in Evans following the defender’s unhappy spitting episode with Papiss Cisse:

Despite reported interest from Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion [International Business Times], Everton look set to be the beneficiaries, and may well see Evans as a long-term replacement for Sylvain Distin.

The veteran French centre-back has already left the club, and may soon be joined in the Everton departure lounge by John Stones, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford [Daily Mail].

According to Goal, Everton are also making plans to add another centre-back to their squad, and have made an enquiry about Inter’s Vidic.

The centre-back only left Old Trafford last summer, and after an underwhelming maiden campaign in Lombardy, may be set for a swift expert.

Everton are understood to be keen on the 33-year-old, having missed out on Angelo Ogbonna, who was signed by West Ham United [according to the club’s official website], and Martinez may be on the brink of securing a whole new ex-Man United centre-back pairing.
