Chelsea transfer ‘almost done’ according to respected journalist; will trigger another transfer

A deal taking Filipe Luis from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid is almost done according to respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 29-year-old will be going to the Vicente Calderon on loan, after struggling to make an impact with the Blues.

The left-back played 25 times for the London side last year, after signing for £15.8 million the summer before [BBC]. However, he played second fiddle to Cesar Azpilicueta throughout the campaign. This was aggravated by the fact that the Spain international is naturally a right-back.

It doesn’t look likely that the Brazil international will have much of a chance of securing a starting berth ahead of Azpilicueta in the future either. The 25-year-old seems to be a favourite of manager Jose Mourinho, who once boasted that a team with 11 versions of the defender could win the Champions League [Daily Mail].

Once the deal for Luis is completed it could mean that Augsburg ace Abdul Baba Rahman will move to Stamford Bridge. According to The Independent, the 21-year-old’s arrival was being delayed due to Chelsea’s inability to offload Luis. However, now that an agreement has been reached between Atletico and Chelsea, Baba may now be set to complete his move to Stamford Bridge.

The Ghana international is already a regular for the Bundesliga side, having made 31 appearances last season. He could be the perfect addition to the squad as he develops while acting as an understudy to Azpilicueta.
