Manchester United transfer target keen on Old Trafford move

Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi is keen on a move to Manchester United after seeing Louis van Gaal‘s plans for the club, reports the Metro.

The 28-year-old is apparently going on strike to force a move away from the Mestalla, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also interested in his signature, the Metro adds. It is United who seem to have the upper hand however, with the Argentine international supposedly impressed by what the Red Devils are planning for the future.

This will be great news for Van Gaal, who is in need of a top class centre-back. Last time round United looked shaky at the back, and were forced to rely heavily on goalkeeper David De Gea. With the Champions League and heightened domestic expectations to worry about this time round they will want to improve in the area.

Moreover, should De Gea complete a rumoured [BBC] move to Real Madrid, the team may not even be able to rely on their star player. This will make shoring up their defence even more pertinent.

With Jonny Evans strongly linked [Metro] to a move to Everton, it could be even more important again that Van Gaal brings in reinforcements. Otamendi could be the perfect man to do this, having come off the back of helping Los Che to concede just 32 goals in 38 matches and qualify for the Champions League in La Liga.
