Thiago Motta looks to be nearing an exit from PSG as speculation concerning his future intensifies.

The Metro reported last week that Arsenal were planning a move for the Italy international, having missed out on a move to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who ultimately moved to Manchester United [BBC].

Arsene Wenger had also been linked with moves for Giannelli Imbula [London24] and Geoffrey Kondogbia [Independent], but the Ligue 1 pair ultimately opted to join FC Porto and Inter Milan respectively.

With Mathieu Flamini’s imminent departure to Galatasaray potentially leaving Arsenal short-staffed in the heart of the park [talkSPORT], a move for the veteran Motta would give the Gunners an extra option in the midfield.

However, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham Hotspur—who have also been linked to the player—will make a move [talkSPORT].

Both sides may be boosted by the news that former Inter Milan man Motta will not be featuring for PSG in their Tuesday friendly against Fiorentina, as he is not in the right place to represent the reigning French champions.

Coach Laurent Blanc confirmed Motta’s situation has not improved and that the player’s future remains uncertain.

“The situation is always the same,” the coach began speaking to L’Equipe, “it’s a delicate situation, I hope it will evolve well.

“For the moment, everyone is still in the same place,” he continued, “I hope things will evolve in a sporting sense, because we can’t continue eternally like that.

“He won’t be in our plans to play on Tuesday,” Blanc went on, “I don’t think so.

“That’s why I’m telling you that his situation isn’t improving, unfortunately.”
