Arsenal & Tottenham in battle to sign excellent €40m forward

Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane side chase Bundesliga ace.

North London rivals Arsenal & Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to France Football.

The 26-year-old left Saint-Etienne for the Westfalenstadion two years ago, initially playing second fiddle to Robert Lewandowski, and has proven an effective attacking weapon for the Bundesliga side.

The lanky marksman has bagged 42 goals in 95 appearances for Borussia Dortmund but has seen his side fail to secure a Champions League berth for 2015/16 and the Gabon international has also seen manager Jurgen Klopp leave this summer.

France Football claim Arsenal have made a €40m (£28m) offer for Aubameyang but it’s Mauricio Pochettino, and not Arsene Wenger, who is in more urgent need of a fresh striking option.

Last season, Spurs found themselves relying overly on young forward Harry Kane and the England man may struggle to hit the heights he reached in 2014/15, when the 21-year-old scored 31 goals in all competitions as well as netting on his national team debut.

Pochettino failed to get much out of Emmanuel Adebayor, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado, the trio managing just five Premier League goals between them.

Arsenal outscored their local rivals 71 to 58 in terms of Premier League goals in 2014/15 though Arsene Wenger has been linked with moves to bring in a more prolific marksman to lead the Gunners attack with both Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain [via the Daily Mail] and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema [via the Daily Express] linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium.

France Football also claim PSG hold an interest in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, although is should be noted that Laurent Blanc has a hugely effective strike-force at present.

The Parc des Princes side retain the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani, the pair bagging 127 goals between them over the past two seasons.
