Man City hijack Man United move for top-quality £99m-rated defensive pair

Etihad Stadium side look to beat Old Trafford rivals to the punch.

Manchester City‘s desire for fresh defensive options will see the Etihad Stadium side push on with efforts to bring in either Nicolas Otamendi or Sergio Ramos, both of whom are known Manchester United targets, according to the Daily Mirror.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Etihad Stadium side conceded more goals than any other side in the Premier League top four, as well as Southampton, and the usually reliable Belgian Vincent Kompany was decidedly off-form throughout the 2014/15 campaign.

New signing Eliaquim Mangala also struggled to adapt to life in the frenetic environs of the Premier League, and a move to bring in another central defender would be a sensible option to consider.

The Daily Mirror claim representatives of Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi are leaning towards a move to Man City ahead of a possible United switch.

Manuel Pellegrini knows Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos well from his time in charge of the Bernabeu side and also has his sights set on the 29-year-old according to the Daily Mirror.

Argentine international Nicolas Otamendi is said to have a £36m release clause [via the Daily Star] whilst reports earlier this summer claim Real Madrid would demand as much as £63m for Sergio Ramos [via the Daily Star], so either way a move to bring in one of the two La Liga stars won’t come cheap.

Thus far Pellegrini has completed deals to sign Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph, from Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively, as Man City look to wrestle back the Premier League crown they so meekly handed to Chelsea in 2014/15.
