Chelsea got their pre-season off to a disappointing defeat against Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls, and Jose Mourinho will surely be demanding a much improved performance from his Blues squad.
The Premier League champions face a tough challenge against Paris Saint-Germain at the Bank of America Stadium – with the possibility of coming up against the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Marco Verratti.
Radamel Falcao could be set for his Chelsea debut having trained with his new team-mates over the past few days, while teenager Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be in line for a start in midfield.
Here’s how we think the west London giants will line-up…
GK – Thibaut Courtois
Asmir Begovic hand a debut to forget in their first game of pre-season, and the Belgian could be out to show his back-up keeper who’s boss.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
The Blues’ most reliable performer, and with no real competition at right-back, expect the Serb to feature regularly in the English champions’ summer clashes.
CB – Gary Cahill
The England international was questioned for his performances at times last season, and will want to impress in their pre-season fixtures with fierce competition from Zouma.
CB – Kurt Zouma
John Terry looked off the pace at the Red Bull arena and could be set to be rested by Mourinho, allowing the young Frenchman for his second start of pre-season – who will need to be on top form against the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.
LB – Cesar Azpilicueta
As Mourinho stated this week, the Portuguese manager believes Azpilicueta to be the finest left-back in England – which sadly looks to have forced Filipe Luis to return to Atletico Madrid.
