New Manchester City signing Fabian Delph has taken to social media and provided an update on his fitness.

The former Aston Villa midfielder endured a frustrating debut for last season’s Barclays Premier League runners-up as he was forced off early in the first half in their pre-season friendly against Real Madrid and had to watch on from the sidelines as the La Liga giants eased to a 4-1 victory in Melbourne.

It’s understood that Delph was withdrawn due to a hamstring problem and he has assured City supporters that he is already on the road to recovery with a post on his official Instagram account.

Delph completed his somewhat controversial transfer to City earlier in the month as he back-tracked on his initial decision to stay at Villa by signing a long-term deal with the Etihad Stadium outfit.

He now faces a race against the clock to be fit for City’s opening game of the new season which is at the Hawthorns against West Brom on August 10 and that is swiftly followed by an eagerly anticipated clash against the reigning champions of England Chelsea less than a week later.
