Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal bemoans lack of creativity at the club

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admits his squad are still short of quality to challenge the top teams in European football, Guardian Sport reports.

The Red Devils have spent over £200million on the likes of Angel Di Maria and Ander Herrera since the Dutch boss replaced David Moyes at the helm last summer in an attempt to restore the club as genuine title challengers to the likes of Chelsea and fierce rivals Manchester City.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian have all been recruited by van Gaal this summer but he feels his squad are still lacking the creativity to pose a threat in the Premier League as well as the Champions League:

“We don’t have a good vision. We can use much more creativity,” said Van Gaal, who then cited Ashley Young and Barcelona star Neymar as an example to emphasize his point.

“Young had a fantastic season but he is not a Neymar and we have to compete with that kind of class.”

“Manchester City have Agüero, it’s the same type. Barcelona has Messi, Neymar and Suárez. We as Manchester United have to compete with these clubs. So we have to look also for that kind of players,” van Gaal added.

United will be busy in the month of August as they begin the new season with a home game against Tottenham on the 8th and will also face a two-legged qualifier in order to reach the group stages of Europe’s elite club competition.
