Manchester United transfer target’s teammate dismisses idea of potential summer move

Real Madrid defender Pepe says the prospect of losing Sergio Ramos to Manchester United this summer has not crossed his mind.

The current Los Blancos captain has been heavily linked with a switch to the Barclays Premier League this summer and Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is understood to have placed the Spanish defender at the top of his list of transfer targets.

Any potential deal between the two European heavyweights is likely to include United goalkeeper David De Gea moving in the opposite direction, but as of yet there has been no breakthrough in negotiations and speculation will continue right up until the closure of the transfer window in just under a month’s time.

Whilst reports in Star Sport claim Madrid are willing to cash in on Ramos, his partner at the heart of their defence Pepe says the rest of the squad expect their leader to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu:

“I’m fine and I do not think any of us are thinking about what might happen if Sergio leaves us,” the Portuguese international stressed [via Mirror Sport].

“He’s our captain. I’m sure I’ve that’s going to stay with us because he loves the club so much and his team mates.”

“There’s nothing unusual when we speak, everything is standard. I hope I stays, he’s a reference for us,” Pepe added.
