Gunners & Reds on alert for Newcastle star (not Sissoko).

Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly been put on alert after talks between Newcastle United and youngster Rolando Aarons broke down, according to the Daily Express.

The talented 19-year-old has not yet become a full first-team regular for the Magpies, though he did make six appearances for the senior side last season, scoring two goals to attract some interest from bigger clubs.

The Express now claim Aarons’ future at St James’ Park is in doubt due to a contract dispute, which could see Arsenal and Liverpool try their luck with a move in this summer’s transfer window.

Both sides are in need of new attacking players at the moment and both have a recent tradition of giving talented youngsters a chance in their first-teams.

A pacey and skillful winger, Aarons could be an ideal replacement for the recently-departed Raheem Sterling at Anfield, who himself became a regular for the Reds at a young age before his fine form saw him earn a move away.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are hoping to tie Theo Walcott down to a new contract, according to the Guardian, but could still do with more options out wide after both he and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain endured injury-hit campaigns last term, while Lukas Podolski has also recently left the club on a permanent basis, joining Galatasaray.
